My husband and I moved down here a year ago. We had heard the story of Cry Baby Bridge even before we moved here so decided to take a drive to the bridge located on High Shoals Road.

Now it should be warned that this is private property owned by the DNR A No Trespassing sign is posted by the gate you have to park on the side of the road and walk a short distance, we did not know this and only stay a few minutes, you can view the bridge from the newly constructed bridge that was built beside it.

Cry Baby Bridge was originally built in Virginia in 1919 for Charleston, South Carolina to connect two counties with the other. In 1952 the bridge was moved to Anderson South Carolina.

The bridge got its name from the urban legend of a woman and a baby somehow falling or jumping off of the bridge.

Another fact about this bridge that is not paranormal related is that the bridge is also a rare example of a smaller scale truss bridge that is a continuous truss bridge, and also a continuous truss bridge that is not a cantilever truss. Most continuous truss bridges built were large, monumental cantilever bridges. This bridge is an unusual type. The bridge is otherwise traditionally composed of a bridge that may have been built after 1915 or before 1930. The bridge does include V-lacing on top of its built-up end…
